Two Eagle River School Volleyball Update

Two Eagle River School lost 3-0 to Lincoln today 25-3, 25-10, 25-14 but obviously showed signs of improvement throughout each game. They also lost to Victor 3-0 on Thursday, 25-13, 25-2, 25-11.

Here are some photos from today's game.

Polson game photos

The Pirates defeated Corvallis 28-7 and Sasha Goldstein was on the sideline with camera in hand. Polson improves to 2-0 on the season. Here are some of his photos...

These Bulldogs have bite!

Mission football hadn't won a game in a year. Their team had a lot of young faces. The Bulldogs were picked to finish last in their conference. The kids didn't care. They were excited to play football and they came out victorious. The Mission Bulldogs beat Boulder 34-21. Here are some photos from tonight's game, you can check out the full story this week in the Lake County Leader.

Where we'll be tonight... Mission Football

Live from the press box at Mission High School, we've got Mission vs. Boulder tonight at 7 p.m. Hopefully I'll have photos and news of a victory later tonight...

(Don't forget Polson is playing Corvallis tonight and Ronan is a Stevensville, I'll see if I cant get updates from those games as well tonight.)

Volleyball roundup

And it's Friday! I hope everyone had a blast watching college football last night. I think I stayed up until 1 a.m. watching Hawaii and USC. Cant... stop... watching Pac-10 football... ahhhh....

Anyways here is the roundup from volleyball action last night.

Polson def. Whitefish 3-1
25-20, 25-21, 21-25, 25-14
Our friendly photographer from the Whitefish Pilot, Matt Baldwin, was very impressed with Breanne Kelley. I think his words were "She could probably jump over the net if she wanted to." She had 23 kills.

Arlee def. Philipsburg 3-2
21-25, 22-25, 25-13, 25-22, 15-13
Read those scores, Arlee came back from TWO matches down. That takes a lot of hard work and effort. Kudos to them.

Charlo def. Seeley-Swan, 3-0
26-24, 25-10, 25-21
The Vikings won in what head coach Sheryl Kain called a sloppy game. Still a win is a win and the Vikings are rolling along nicely.

Watch out Griz fans! Here comes Taiwan Jones!

I'm convinced that EWU could be a struggling team in the WAC if they wanted to be. Sure they'd have to get a much bigger football stadium and improve their overall athletic facilities, but the kind of student-athletes their attracting continues to get better.

Case in point, EWU lost to Nevada last night, 49-24, but the real story is how awesome Taiwan Jones is. He's the real deal. Against a FBS opponent he racked 322 all-purpose yards, which is a career high.

Anyone in the Big Sky Conference needs to be taking a good look at this kid. I'm talking about you Griz fans, Chase Reynolds has nothing on Taiwan Jones.

Ronan football update

I made it out to this afternoon's practice in Ronan and was able to talk to head coach Jim Benn. He told me that the two running backs that were injured during the Chiefs' 28-14 victory over Browning will still be out for the team's matchup against Stevensville tomorrow. Lucus Black had a high ankle sprain and J.J. Tanner a strained ligament.

"Lucus was almost ready to go but better safe than sorry," Benn said. "J.J. is out for another week."

The team is adjusting, and senior tight end Cole McArthur is stepping in to play running back.

"Cole stepped in and he has a wrist band," Benn said. "Cole is a senior. He knows the expectations, he's played fullback before."

Stevensville will present an interesting challenge for Ronan. It's a very athletic team cut in the same ilk as Frenchtown, last year's state champions. A highly athletic team that likes to run the ball a lot.

"Stevensville is very athletic, they run a spread offense," Benn said. "Their QB had a ton of speed. they have a lot of good speed kids."

Ronan definitely likes to run the ball too, they only passed six times against Browning and that's a lot according to Benn. They also racked up a Northwest A league high in rushing yards, going for over 300.

"It's what  we do," he said. "I think our line did a fantastic job."

Benn said that his team might struggle earlier to adjust because of the change at running back, but the line play should be very solid.

"I think they did a fantastic job. Their effort was great," Benn said. "They have the potential to be special."

Ronan plays Stevensville at 7 p.m. tomorrow on the road.
