Polson pulls away from Libby

(From the Daily Interlake)

LIBBY - Softball fans who attended Thursday's Northwestern A contest between the homestanding Loggers and Polson Pirates were treated to a whole lot of offense.

The Class A defending state champion Pirates racked up 19 hits. No slouch, Libby had 10 hits.

The Loggers held a 2-1 advantage after five innings.

"It was a good game. Great defense. Both teams made some great plays," said Libby coach Dean Thompson.

But in the sixth inning "(Polson's) bats warmed up and got going. They played a great game.

"We were still getting people on base. We couldn't get them across home plate," he added.

Thompson complimented the efforts of Polson center fielder Kodi Woods.

"She made a couple great catches in the outfield that saved a couple runs for them," he said.
"She's a good one, very quick."

Woods also did pretty well with her bat - she was 4-for-5 with a triple and an RBI.

Sallie Sams was also 4-for-5 with two doubles and two RBI for the Pirates.

Taylor Armstrong and Alyssa Walker were each 2-for-3 at the plate for Libby.

Stacey Oedewaldt had a double and an RBI for Libby.

The Loggers are at Whitefish on Saturday.
