After running in the Live Locally 5K this morning as part of team LEADER (with Brandon Hansen), I was able to make it to Missoula just in time to catch AA and A teams duke it out for Montana State Cross Country superiority.
All our Lake County teams did an amazing job at this final meet of the season. We'll have all the details in this week's Leader, but here's a quick summary (from memory and limited to the coaches/parents I was able to catch up with):
- Mission's Paden Alexander took 5th place in Class B.
- Mission girls team placed 4th in Class B.
- Polson boys and girls were both 8th in the Class A team standings.
- Polson's Claudia Hewston ran her heart out to a third place individual finish.
- Her teammate, Tegan Bauer, was All-State as well, placing ninth.
And I know there were more incredible efforts out there on the course!
Here are a few photos from the Class A race:

Ronan survives Mission scare
The visiting Ronan Chiefs got as much as they could handle from the host Mission Bulldogs on Friday night, but survived the scare, winning 34-12.
The game was much closer than the final score would indicate, as the Bulldogs twice had chances in the fourth quarter to tie the game up, but couldn't come up with the points to do so.
Ronan came out fast, going 80 yards in just three plays, capped off by a Jake Humphreys touchdown run for a quick 7-0 lead.
That's all the scoring there would be until close to halftime when the Chiefs punched it in again for a 14-0 edge.
The Bulldogs used a long kickoff return by Raymond Matt to set up good field position en route to a Dylan Evans 5-yard score to cut the deficit to 8.
Ronan immediately responded thanks to a ridiculous 95-yard touchdown run by Humphreys to retake the 14-point lead.
Mission kept plugging away, however, and their determination paid off when Dakota Gun Hammer bounced into the end zone from 5 yards out to get within 20-12.
In the fourth, the Bulldogs made a pair of stops on Ronan's run attack, but couldn't make a third, as Robbie Gauthier scored on a 2-yard run to boost the lead to 27-12. The Chiefs, after forcing a fumble, added insurance when Jake Skelton put the finishing touches on the victory with a touchdown run for the final points.
Ronan enters the playoffs next weekend with some momentum, while the Bulldogs hard-fought season came to an end.

Florence eeks by Mission
BY BRANDON HANSEN
Talk about your epic battles. The Lady Bulldogs came to play. The Lady Falcons came to play. The crowd also came to play.

Mission took the first game 25-21, after jumping out to a 18-13 lead and never looking back. In the second game, the Lady Bulldogs broke a 14-14 tie with a 11-3 run to win it.
Florence bounced back in the third game, winning 25-11. However, Mission wasn't detered and came out to battle in the fourth game.
It was tied or within one point for nearly the entire game. Both squads saw plenty of switches in momentum and it was the Falcons that were able to come away with the 28-26 victory.

Sara Nerby led the team with a whopping 20 kills and five blocks. Meanwhile on defense, Sydney Allard had 27 digs. Loren Erickson had 18 assists. Sarah Bowers also had 17 assists.
