Montana State handed Eastern Washington their fifth consecutive loss in men's basketball tonight in Bozeman. Looks like there will be no national championship in basketball for the Eags.
BOZEMAN – Erik Rush, Rod Singleton and Bobby Howard each scored 14 points to lead five players in double figures and Montana State shot 72.7 percent in the second half to rally past Eastern Washington 71-59 Sunday.
The Bobcats (5-1 Big Sky, 11-7), who are off to their best start in conference play since 2004-05, went on a 15-1 run midway through the second half to turn a three-point deficit into a 46-35 lead with 10:11 remaining. They never trailed again.
Glen Dean scored 17 points and Kevin Winford had 14 for the Eagles (1-4, 4-13), who lost their fifth consecutive game.
Montana State improved to 5-1 on the season, making me think (with the performance by Montana so far) that this state will be the place to be when the Big Sky Tournament rolls around.

The Big Sky just got a whole lot more interesting
The gauntlet has been thrown down by the Bengals!
Oh Idaho State, I watched them last Saturday and they were TERRIBLE. Conveniently, their head coach had already been fired and it was announced earlier this week that Mike Kramer will be their new coach.
(Mike Kramer is the guy on the right, in case you didn't know)
The Big Sky Conference better look over their shoulders because Kramer is one hell of a coach. He's won three conference championships with Montana State, who stupidly fired him for something he didn't even have control of, and one at Eastern Washington University.
In 1997, Kramer led the Eags to the semi-finals of the FCS Playoffs. The last Big Sky team to make it that far other than Montana.
He's a good coach, MSU was dumb in letting him go and I fully expect Idaho State to be a power in the next few years.
It's now just adding another storyline to the Big Sky Conference which is seeing the additions of more teams, the rise of Eastern Washington, parody abound in the league and the fall of Montana being the best team in the world.
Wow. Buckle up.

MSU QB will play for BC Lions
Former Montana State QB Travis Lulay will be suiting up for the B.C. Lions of the Canadian Football League
VANCOVUER, British Columbia — Former Montana State quarterback Travis Lulay will make his first start of the season for the British Columbia Lions of the Canadian Football League when they visit the Toronto Argonauts on Friday night.
Lulay replaces Casey Printers, who suffered a knee injury two weeks ago, as the Lions (1-2) try to end a two-game losing streak.
“It’s unfortunate for Casey that he is dinged up. That’s the nature of the business sometimes,” Lulay told the Canadian Press. “I have been preparing myself mentally to be ready whenever I got the call. It’s this week and it’s time to go.”
Lulay’s last professional start was June 3, 2007, when he played for the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe. The Thunder lost and Lulay was injured during the game and didn’t play for the rest of the season.
I remember Lulay playing against Eastern and us hating him a lot. But hey, sounds like he's doing pretty good for himself. I will say that it kind of sucks for these FCS players now that NFL Europe is no longer in business. At least there you were one step away from the NFL, the CFL and AFL are considerable more isolated and separated from the big time.
He's a good QB though, I expect him to do well.

Should UM and MSU move to FBS?
Huge news for college football, and this is only the tip of the iceberg. Colorado is headed to the Pac-10. Now sit back and watch the Big 12 crumble to nothing. If more teams follow, the Pac-10 could look completely different in a blink of the eye. Also considering USC was just slapped with a two-year postseason ban, things are getting really juicy.
Now lets step back and take a look at how this affects more local teams, namely the Big Sky and the Montana schools. Talk of moving up to FBS is nothing new for Montana and Montana State, however is it the right move if this Big 12 vacuum clears some space in the smaller conferences?
Having seen a program fall flat when they moved up first hand, let me be the first to say that the Montana schools don't want to become the next Idaho. They also shouldn't expect to have Boise State-like success if they move up. I recently read this very well-written article in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle by Will Holden explaining the challenges of the transition from FCS and FBS. I want to show you a few snippets and explain why it would be a bad idea for the Montana schools to move up.
