Girls Basketball: Mission 30, Charlo 23
ST. IGNATIUS – It was rough and tumble. There were plenty of players diving on the floor. Things were tight all the way on the scoreboard.
It was just another rivalry between Lake County teams. On Thursday night, the Mission Lady Bulldogs (3-0) dug deep for a 30-23 victory over the Charlo Lady Vikings (2-1).
Charlo’s Rachel Hoyt was the game’s leading scorer with 15 and was pretty much unstoppable in the post for the Lady Vikings. However, turnovers ultimately hurt Charlo and proved to be the difference in the game.
Mission jumped out to an early 11-5 lead, largely thanks to a 8-1 run to finish out the period. A low-scoring second quarter ended with the Lady Bulldogs walking into the locker room at halftime with the a 14-8 lead.
They Hoyt came alive. She scored six straight points to pull the Lady Vikings within 20-17 at the end of the third quarter, and ultimately scored 10 of Charlo’s last 12 points in the game.
Mission would go on a 6-2 run to start the fourth quarter and would hold on to win 30-23. They were led by Kyla Mitchell who had 12 points. Stephanie Lewandowski also contributed six points.
Mission – 11 - 3 - 6 - 10 - 30
Charlo – 5 - 3 - 9 - 6 - 23
Lady Bulldogs scoring – Kyla Mitchell 12, Stephanie Lewandowski 6, Loren Erickson 5, Ashley Courville 3, Bryanna Steele 2, Cecelia Koskela 2
