I heard about this poster through the grapevine & had to come see for myself. That may be Toby (as the prior blogger stated) but is that really so awsome? Sounds like just another jock who thinks more highly of himself that he ought to. I know this young man is a decent wrestler, but there is always someone out there bigger, stronger, faster & more talented. I live in Great Falls and saw "because I'm Toby Cheff" wrestle twice this year...at the Holiday Classic and the T.O.C. He lost both times. Obviously, in this poster, he is not shaking the hand of the Stroh kid from tiny little Chinook. Stroh pinned him in "less than a minute" at the Holiday, then threw him around like he was wrestling his little sister before he got robbed of pinning him a second time at the end of their match at the TOC. REALITY CHECK!!! One can only hope that this may have brought him down to earth just a little bit.
If you knew Toby you wouldn’t have went off like a junior high kid with your comment. Toby is very humble and has the utmost respect for his family, friends, opponents, and all sports. Just because some newspaper decides to place a comment in their publication, not representing anything Toby has said, you chose to cut him down. And for your information, Ben Stroh is a very good wrestler and deserves all he has achieved. However, Toby wrestled the entire year with a dislocated shoulder that he will under go surgery for now. And at the TOC he was asked not to wrestle, but he did to save face and for his own pride. He spent the next 7 days home in bed with Influence flu and pneumonia which had started the Friday before. (You’re more than welcome to call the school or the local medical clinic for authenticity.) I am not sure who you are and what you feel you have to gain by cutting on a high school athlete. I am sure you have never faced adversity nor have any idea who Toby Cheff is.
Guess I must have hit a nerve. I didn't have any intention of leaving a comment until I read the first comment from someone whom sounded like they know Toby well enough to say "that'd be Toby". I should have phased my comment with an "if that is Toby". I do have a low tolerance for kids who are full of themselves and think the whole world revovles around them because thru no fault of there own, they were born with God-given athletic abilities, and have been told by family & community their whole life, just how great and special they are. As you pointed out, I don't personally know Toby, so I will concede that he is who you say he is. But, I will also say that all kids are respectful and down to earth with their family and friends. Humble & Prideful...two great taste that taste great together. I have been around, coached, and followed High School sports for years, and the point I was mostly trying to make, was that now matter how good one thinks he is, there is always a faster gun out there. And you may have over-looked my acknowledgement that Toby is a pretty decent wrestler. There is no doubt about that. Kids with his record do put in alot of work to develop those God-given physical abilities. Also, I was in no way minimizing what Ben Stroh is capable of. I do follow the sport. He has won serveral national tournys (Reno, Tulsa Nationals, Rocky Mountain, etc.), hasn't lost since his freshman year to the Hienbaugh kid from Havre who was a senior & two time class A state champ (Stroh also beat him that year), and will likely be wrestling in one of the top D-1 programs in the country when he gets to college. I hope Toby heals gets healed up. Most kids wrestle with injury, but there is no shame in not wrestling if the injury is that restrictive. I know from TOC insider information, that is why Stroh did not wrestle there last year, and he to went through post season surgery on his hip or knee. Toby...ALWAYS stay humble.
On the Bleachers is the sports blog of the Lake County Leader in Polson, Mont. It will be updated periodically with local and national sports news by sports editor Brandon Hansen. If you have something you'd like to say about the blog, feel free to email Brandon.
If you need something to make fun of him about, remember that he's a big Boston Red Sox, Seattle Sounders FC and Tennessee Titans fan.
That'd be Toby! That's awesome!
