Polson 2, Corvallis 1

I'm still trying to put together my thoughts about this game. Polson is in the FINAL FOUR for soccer in Montana. The win today showed why they've been able to be so strong this season. It takes an incredibly tough team to defeat Corvallis and under the conditions that they did it.

Senior Trever Moll scored in the 15th minute, then Corvallis tied it up in the 59th. What followed was a tense 15 minutes that caused me to look for the TUMS bottle. Sophomore Jon Huetmaker scored in the 76th minute to give Polson a dramatic victory in the first round of the playoffs.

Some thoughts...

1. Polson has won seven straight.
2. This is head coach Jess Kittle's first playoff win.
3. Polson was actually in the South conference with Corvallis when they began the program, so Kittle and Corvallis head coach Brock Hammill are actually good friends. Hammill told Kittle with the time ticking down and both teams locked in a 1-1 tie "it's gonna come down right down to the wire" and it did.
4. Polson controlled the tempo for much of the first half, while Corvallis came out in the second with a bit of a fire under them. Amazing game to watch if you're a fan of soccer.
5. Polson will play Belgrade next weekend after they beat Stevensville 1-0 today. The South has zero teams left in the playoffs.
6. Does anyone else think the Pirate mascot is hilarious?

Here are some photos I took from the game...
