Legion State Game 6 - Great Falls 9, Billings 8

Whats the best cure for the flu? Winning a state tournament baseball game.

The Great Falls Electrics have been fighting the flu since they've been in Polson at the state tourney, losing to the Mission Valley Mariners 16-6 last night, but they came up big in extra-innings against the Billings Cardinals today.

Derik Powell hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth to give the Electrics the 9-8 victory. Powell finished the game 4-for-5 with two RBIs (But obviously the most important RBI).

Great Falls collected 15 hits as a team in the contest, and Sam Wingerter went 4-for-6 with two RBIs and two doubles. Justin Pfennigs had three doubles as well.

At first it looked like the Electrics' fans might be sick as the Billings Cardinals jumped out to a 3-1 lead through three innings. Great Falls added two more in the bottom of the fourth to tie things up but Billings would answer back in the top of the sixth to make it 5-3. They extended that lead to 8-4 by the top of the eighth.

Billings collected 10 hits but committed five errors in the matchup. Tray Roadifer went 2-4 with a double and an RBI and Kenny Clarin went 2-for-4 also, with two RBIs.

Roadifer also picked 8 and 1/3 innings and struck out nine for the Cardinals.

In the bottom of the eighth, Great Falls scored two runs when Anthony Bonilla singled to bring home Sam Wingerter and a batter later, Dalton Cook doubled to score another.

Cook pitched the top of the ninth and 10th in relief, not allowing a run and striking out three.

In the bottom of the ninth, Powell singled to score a run, then Tanner Lee singled to bring in a run to force extra innings.
