Mission moves on at divisionals

PABLO - Free throws were key as Mission overcame some early foul trouble and a low shooting percentage to defeat Superior 39-29 on Wednesday afternoon in the first round of the Western B divisionals at SKC in Pablo. While Superior did get 15 points from free throws, they also missed some key charity stride shots that could have helped them in the game.

The Lady Cats didn't go easy though, and put up a strong defensive fight against Mission. Both teams were locked in a 10-10 tie early in the second quarter before Mission went on a 10-3 run to finish out the first half for a 20-13 lead. It was sparked largely on two buckets by Bryanna Steele, who was roaming around the basket all afternoon long.

Superior would pull within three to start the third quarter, but Mission went on a 8-3 run to grab a 28-22 lead going into the fourth. Mission was able to get six points from field goals out of chute in the fourth, and hit their free throws in the end to win it.

Top Mission scorer Kyla Mitchell scored eight of her 14 points in the second half. The Lady Bulldogs got 13 points from free throws.

Mission - 8 - 12 - 8 - 11 - 39
Superior - 6 - 7 - 9 - 7 - 29

Lady Bulldogs scoring - Kyla Mitchell 14, Bryanna Steele 8, Loren Erickson 7, Stephanie Lewandowski 6, Ashley Courville 4
